“Stargazing. World-gazing.”
I thought I could make it. I really thought I could make it.
I reach for the stars, they fall from the sky;
I pose man’s questions like who, what and why?
All answers, it seems, lurk out of plain sight;
The valleys tell stories, the oceans have song,
The sun’s warm embrace gently heals what is wrong.
But what in return does our dear world receive?
Like a dusty old book, it lays tossed aside,
While to tech and material our focus is tied;
We know where we came from, but where will we go?
The water is rising, signs appear all around,
But in oblivion deep is where most will be found.
I knew I could make it, I strayed from the town
By gazing above a world looking down.

I like how you used rhetorical questions and then answered them as the poem went on! 🙂
