You’ve got a college degree?
What are you doing here?
Learning, Studying, working-
All of this to get me here.
I did what I was supposed to do.
But I still feel so incomplete.
Yes, I have that college degree,
But why does it seem hard to see?
I only did this to make you happy-
To meet your hopes, your dreams.
Yes, I have a college degree,
And I’ll never take that lightly.
But, now that it’s done,
I realize I’ve already won.
Even if you can’t see,
This is where I want to be.
Not for you, but for me.

I love how you express the speaker’s gratitude for an education and highlight the internal conflict that can come with seeking higher education… I think a lot of people can relate!

I like the repetition of the line: “yes, I have that college degree”, and how it reinforces how hollow an accomplishment of a college degree can feel if you’re not passionate about it.

Abby! I like how you write about the expectations of others when you graduate high school like going to college and getting a degree, even though you may want to do something completely different in life.

You did really well with rhyming! I know I am really bad at it so I tend to find it impressive when it’s done well!
